  10. After using AWeb for a few days now, I discovered something wierd with my
  11. system.  I found that when using AWeb on it's own 16 colour screen, it
  12. would hang, TCP/IP would stop working (I couldn't ping anybody including
  13. myself), and the modem would drop the connection.  At first I thought
  14. this was a problem with AWeb, but when I ran AMosaic on my Workbench
  15. screen with 16 colours, it did exactly the same thing.  I would have
  16. checked this with IBrowse, but since it crashed so often, I deleted it.

  18. I spent all day trying different things to determine what was causing
  19. this problem.  This is what I found out.  All screen that were used
  20. were PAL hires laced screens.

  22. When running AWeb on it's own screen with 16 colours, it would hang all
  23. the time.   When I opened AWeb on the Workbench screen with 8 colours,
  24. it ran great.  I used it more than an hour like this without a problem.
  25.  I tried to run it on it's own screen with 8 colours and although it
  26. didn't hang as often as it did with a 16 colour screen, it still hung
  27. occasionally.

  30. only ran without a problem on the Workbench screen with 8 or less colours.

  32. It seems to be something with my system.  I would like to know if anybody
  33. else is having these problems.  The only thing I can determine is that
  34. using 16 colours on my A2000 along with the Multiface III board at 115200
  35. bps, my 28.8Kbps modem talking to another modem at the same rate is taking
  36. it's toll on my hardware.

  38. I wouldn't think this would cause a problem because I do have a GVP RC030
  39. accelerator running at 40MHz, 8MB 32 bit RAM, 2MB 16 bit RAM, and 2MB
  40. Chip RAM.  I have the CPU set for FASTROM, and my VBR is loaded into Fast
  41. memory.

  43. Just as another experiment, I had 8 FTP sessions downloading, 2 FTP
  44. sessions uploading, a Telnet window open, and IRC running all at once
  45. without any type of lockup.  They all ran a little slow, but it
  46. functioned perfectly.

  48. My system is an A2000/Workbench 3.1/AmiTCP 4.2 registered/PPP 1.45
  49. registered/Multiface III/US Robotics 28.8 Modem connected to another
  50. US Robotics 28.8 modem.

  52. If there is other information that I should have included, please let me
  53. know.  I want to figure out what is causing this problem.
